Thank you for everyone who attended the La Bohème event

Gala Fundraiser
6 December 2002
8:00 - 10:30 PM
The Broadway Theater
1681 Broadway at 53rd Street

This promises to be a night of firsts. AIGA New York has chosen this night for its first gala fundraiser (for these tough times), and also to bring us together dressed really nice and smelling of Champagne.

For the first time acclaimed director, and all around bon vivant, Baz Lurhmann is bringing Puccini's "La Bohème" to Broadway in its original Italian (with subtitles of course) sung by a attractive cast of singers from South America, China, England Russia and America.

Designed by his wife, Oscar winner Catherine Martin, with the stunning visual splendor she brought to "Moulin Rouge." This production promises to be the talk of the town. See it with 600 others three days before opening night and enjoy a post performance discussion with Mr. Lurhmann and Ms Martin, another first.

Be the first on your block to get Bohème!

Why A Fundraiser?

With revenue shortfalls a serious issue at this time, the New York chapter would like to find a way to continue providing a forum for the exchange of ideas with our visiting lecturers, Small Talks and Business Seminars; and continue to make a difference in the lives of students in our Mentor Program.

Where will you sit?
All seats are in the orchestra and front mezzanine section, the prime seating areas of the theater. Seats will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Seats purchased as one transaction will be grouped together. If you wish to sit together as a group, try to purchase your tickets at once on one credit card. If you have a special need due to a handicap, please make a note in the comment section of the on-line registration form.

When will you receive your tickets?
Beginning November 18th, tickets will be mailed to the person who ordered them. Tickets ordered after November 18th can be picked up at AIGA until December 5th.

Why are there two ticket prices?

This Gala Fundraiser will make the difference in revenue shortfalls for our chapter. There is no difference in these seats based on the tickets price. The difference is in the amount you give in support . Please give generously; all proceeds above the actual ticket price of $95 will benefit these initiatives, and represents the tax deductible portion of your purchase.

Tickets prices
$175 Extra Generous Art Director Rate(Milton, Ivan, and company, we're depending on you)

$125 Regular Joe and Jane Designer Rate(without you we're nothing)

There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase, and we encourage you to tell your friends.

Art Chantry
Graphic design is a fold art whose best practitioners are often anonymous and whose best examples may be deceptively rough or naive. It is individuals striving against really oppressive odds who make graphics interesting, not guys in universities.

Steven Heller
Merz to Emigre: Avant-Guarde Magazine Design of the Twentieth Century
surveys the paper stage of the last 100 years of radical publication design and typography. Without paper there could, argubly, be no avant-guarde, but without an avant-guarde, paper would have be less volatile.

Paula Scher
In Make It Bigger, Paula Scher skewers both the academic and business approaches to design.

Hell No!: Designers and War
What could artists and designers have done to influence the President not to make war? And once involved what were the options for protest?

Peter Saville
Peter Saville is the kind of designer people build legends around. For the past two decades he has been making work that excites us in unique and surprising ways.

Pierre Bernard
As a founder of the design collective Grapus, Pierre Bernard fought the idea that culture is elitist and that politics are dirty and useless. Now Pierre and his studio apply the same philosophy to professional graphic design.
