Art, the product of bohemians, was certainly unable to prevent World
Wars I or II and once the war clouds engulfed Europe what little
anti-war art and
writing
in existence was muffled by government censorship and increased calls for patriotism.
Some artists continued to protest and faced penalties. Others artists like James
Montgomery Flagg, who created the classic “I Want You” Uncle Sam
poster,
produced propaganda art attacking America’s enemies and calling for its
entry into the war.
