Mars (c. 1914), Alfred Kubin German artists attacked the saber rattling of the French, English artists condemned the war fever of the Germans, and so on. But many artists broke from nationalism and attacked war in general using time-worn symbols, like Alfred Kubin’s cartoon of Mars, the war god.
