No artist could stop the oncoming Vietnam War, but the military and
politicians could not stop the outpouring of protest once the war became a quagmire
of grand proportions. Forget that the reasons for war were dubious in the first
place; the ultimate cost was unnecessary. Many artists contributed to the art
of protest. Seymour Chwast’s colorfully deceptive poster with its memorable
slogan
was widely distributed.
