No artist could stop the oncoming Vietnam War, but the military and politicians could not stop the outpouring of protest once the war became a quagmire of grand proportions. Forget that the reasons for war were dubious in the first place; the ultimate cost was unnecessary. Many artists contributed to the art of protest. Seymour Chwast’s colorfully deceptive poster with its memorable slogan was widely distributed.
