6:00-9:00 pm
John J. Harvey
Chelsea Pier 63
23rd. St. and the Hudson River
6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Rain threatened to spoil the ride, but The Love Boat must have some great Karma.
At 6:00 p.m. the sun was pouring through the clouds and the 53 of 60 registered
Boaters were aboard and ready leave the dock. (The other seven who registered, but didn't show,
will be jealous to read this post.
The John J Harvey is an historic 1931 fireboat that the city decommissioned
in 1999. It was then purchased by a small group and refurbished. In
2001 the Harvey was one of the first fireboats to arrive on the scene
at the World Trade Center and pumped water for the FDNY for four days
and nights. Now a registered landmark, the John J. Harvey educates
the public about our amazing waterfront past.
Our three hour tour included a barbeque dinner (by Restaurant Florent),
open bar, goodie bags and a couple raffles. And it included great
photo opportunities.
