For page one of The New York Times, Philip Gefter reviewed and edited over 1,000 pictures a day for hard news and feature stories to bring color to the gray lady. Philip will reveal what it is like to assign photographers, supervise picture editors, and make daily presentations to editors in the page one meeting.

Philip Gefter has worked as a picture editor at one New York Times news desk or another for 8 years. He has been a picture editor at Fortune, Geo, Aperture, the San Francisco Examiner Sunday magazine, and even at Colors, the Benetton magazine. He was a founding member of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, as well as president of its New York chapter in 1994 and 1995. He received a BFA in photography from Pratt Institute.
