Raw, no-frills, collaged, fractured, distressed and recycled, Chantry’s work is born of vernacular culture. Avoiding the computer and often working on shoe-string budgets, his iconoclasm and low-tech design ethic have made him one of the most prolific, fascinating and influential figures in the history of graphic design.

Chantry has carved a place for himself in design history with his social agitation, visual wit and raw vision. His work has moved the visual styles of punk, grunge and no-frills vernacular poster design to the level of acceptance within the design profession.

Just as the doors close on his first major New York exhibition at MoMA’s P.S.1, Chantry will present examples from his career, discuss his working procedures and take questions from the audience.
