Sunday 8 December 2002
1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
AIGA National Design Center
164 Fifth Avenue
New York, NY 10010
AIGA/NY is having a Flea Market, Tag Sale, Garage Sale, Rummage
Sale, Get Rid of your Stuff and Buy More Sale to raise some cash
so we can continue to bring you some of the finest, fun, stimulating,
raucous and, oh, educational events throughout the year.
We KNOW you have stuff you don't want and that your fellow designers
would covet. Let Go! Purge! and then buy more tschotkes, ephemera,
nifty clothes, whatever! Maira Kalman will be selling M&Co.
watches at a ridiculous discount. Drew Hodges will be hawking theater
posters from FREAK and other hip shows. You want books? Some de
rigeur design titles will be 50% off. AND there will be snacks and
drinks and some surprising events! We would love (and need) you
to throw your stuff in boxes and schlep it over to the AIGA before
December 8th so we can sort it out. No other obligation except to
come and join us in the festivities. Unload, restock, eat cupcakes,
and hang with friends.
Do my donated items have to be "graphic design" stuff?
No, you can donate anything that is in good enough condition that
someone will want to purchase it.
May I donate big items?
Why, as a matter of fact, yes. Big items might earn us the most
money.
Chairs, lamps, file cabinets?
Sure. BUT, please remember, the customers will be tasty designers
like yourself. Beige office furniture is a no-no.
Can AIGA pick up my donations?
No. It might shock you to know that the New York Chapter has one
full-time employee; and he doesn't have a drivers license.
When can I bring my donations to AIGA?
Anytime during offices hours, which are open Monday to Friday 9:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can also bring items in on Saturday December
7th. from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Will I be given a receipt for tax deduction purposes?
Of course, for the maximum the law allows, which is a measly $500.
What kind of stuff will be available?
Gosh, all kings of stuff: M&Co watches, issues of M&Co designed
Colors magazine, theater posters for FREAK and other shows, books
about design for up to 50% off. But, hey, remember, we need you
to donate something too.
Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes you can pay with Amex, MasterCard or Visa. If you have a debit
card that carries the logo of one of these cards, it can be used
like a credit card. You can also pay with cash or check.
Will I be charged sales tax?
8.25% sales tax will be added to all purchases.
Can AIGA arrange delivery of my purchases?
Sorry, cash and carry only.
How much will the M&Co watches sell for? Or for that matter,
how much will anything else at the tag sale be priced?
All pricing decisions will be made the morning of sale before opening
for business. We wonít know how much prices will be until then.
Will M&Co watch designs, other than the one shown be available?
Yes.
If I can't make it to the tag sale, will I be able to buy over
the phone or web site?
No, but we may keep the sale running into the work week, so check
the chapter web site for updates.
